Loose leaf tea, plain and simple

Zachtethee is a Dutch shop for loose leaf tea: whole leaves, real pieces of fruit, herbs and flowers, no tea bags. Rooibos, herbal tea, green and black tea and fruit blends, in 50 or 100 grams, packed by hand. In summer most of them also work as a cold brew; for gifting there are our bundles.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between loose leaf tea and tea bags?

A tea bag usually holds finely ground tea. Loose leaf tea is whole leaves and pieces of fruit and herbs, which have room to open up and release their flavour.

How much loose tea per cup?

Usually one to two teaspoons per cup (2 to 3 grams). The exact advice is on the page of each blend.

Which tea is caffeine-free?

Rooibos, herbal infusions and fruit infusions contain no caffeine. Green and black tea do.

How do you make cold brew tea?

Two tablespoons of loose tea per litre of cold water, 6 to 8 hours in the fridge, then strain.

Why does most tea taste of so little?

Because the bag usually holds dust — the leftovers when the leaf breaks. Dust gives colour quickly. After that, not much more.

We only sell whole, loose leaves. Bought from a European tea house that has been at it for over a hundred years, tasted by us, and only in the shop if we'd drink it every day.
